The government is planning to import 500 buses under the Indian line of credit to be deployed under ‘the park and ride system’ in Colombo, a Minister said.

Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardana told Daily Mirror that these buses would ply on the busy Colombo roads starting from the park and ride spots (places where passengers can park their private vehicles and use public transport system).

Three such spots have been established in Makumbura, Kadawatha and Katubedda to reduce the entry of private vehicles to Colombo.

Besides, the Minister said 100 buses would be hire-purchased from Lanka Ashok Leyland Company to transport school children in the Colombo District.

He said he would seek to secure Cabinet approval for it.
