Action can be taken against those state ministers who had gone to Japan to watch Olympics as per Code of Ethics for MPs, an opposition MP said yesterday.

SJB MP Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella told a press conference that action can be taken against these state ministers as per the code of ethics for MPs introduced few years ago. “ An MP is expected to inform Parliament if they receive  benefits from anyone including from the private sector. Therefore the state Ministers who went Japan should have informed parliament if they were sponsored by an outsider. Action can be taken against them as they have not informed the House about any sponsorship.,” Mr. Kiriella said.

“ Unfortunately there are MPs who are ready to auction their Parliamentary posts for monetary gains. This is why any government is able get any draconian law enacted,” he added.
