WPC arrested for picking pockets

• Investigations revealed that the WPC was attached to a police station in the Kandy Police division

A Woman Police Constable suspected to have stolen the wallet of a woman inside a textile shop in Kandy was arrested by Kandy crime Investigations Branch.The owner, who found her wallet in her hand bag missing after she selected a dress and prepared to pay money had made a complaint to police. 

 The wallet had contained cash Rs. 35,000, four gift vouchers for Rs.5000 each and a mobile phone valued about Rs. 40,000.The police examined the CCTV recordings in the shop had identified the suspect woman who opened the hand bag and took away the wallet. Investigations revealed that she was a WPC attached to a police station in the Kandy police division. A police team under OIC Crime Investigation Branch is conducting further investigations on the instructions of HQI Kandy CI Rasika Sampath.
