The United National Party (UNP) is willing to have a dialogue to determine ways and means to cooperate with other opposition parties to form joint administrations in local bodies which the opposition enjoys a, majority, party General Secretary Talatha Athukorala said yesterday.
“We are willing to have a dialogue with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and others to form administrations in local bodies which the opposition commands a majority,Ms. Athukorala told journalists.
“Our intention is to oust the ruling NPP from power as they have deceived the people continuously,” she added.
“We were always ready to work with the SJB and both myself and our Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene did have a dialogue with them some time back. This process can be restarted now,” she said.
She also said UNPers are happy that they have been able to get more than 300 of its members elected to various local bodies in the country this year. “We are happy as we have managed to win representation in many local bodies contesting under the Elephant symbol,” she said.
Meanwhile UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said his party has managed to become the decisive force in some local bodies.
