Stealing and selling M/ bikes to underworld

Supply of stolen motorcycles to the underworld for criminal activities came to light when two young men who had in their possession eleven motorcycle stolen by them were arrested by Minuwangoda police.  They are now being interrogated under detention order issued by Minuwangoda magistrate. 

The suspects were Subasinghe Arachchige Tharindu Jude Lakmal Perera alias Kehelbarra Jude and Wickremahetto Konthilage Hasitha Prasad Kumara alias Pathagahawatte Sudda of Udugampola.  

Police said they first arrested one suspect when he was fleeing after stealing a motorcycle at Dewalapola in Minuwangoda and under interrogation he provided information on the racket. 

Investigations revealed that they had stolen 17 motorcycles of a particular model popular among women and sold them to underworld gangsters. During investigations the police had seized a trishaw used by the suspects for robberies.  

Police said the motorcycle used by the underworld gangsters suspected for a recent murder in Horana area had been sold to them by the suspects.   

A police team under OIC Minuwangoda police CI S.N.Jayalath is conducting further investigations on the instructions of SSP, Gampaha Division Nalaka W.Senanayaka.
