Former State Intelligence Services (SIS) Chief Suresh Sallay who is under detention order is running a risk of being infected with rat fever, Opposition MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said yesterday.

“Sallay is kept in a small room on the fourth floor. Rats are said to be running all over the room. He is said to be sleeping on the ground. Rats are said to be running over his body. Also it was said that there is rat excreta all over his room. Sallay is running the risk of being infected with rat fever,” the MP told a media briefing.

“We therefore appeal to the government to treat Sallay in a decent manner based on the accepted concept that all prisoners are human beings,” he added.

Also it was alleged that Sallay’s son has not been allowed to visit him since his arrest.

Sallay is under a 90 day detention order after being arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday bomb attacks in 2019.
