Prices of goods to come down during Sinhala-Tamil New Year: Minister

• Other major essential items that are being imported transacting with dollars, will also come down soon

Since the Sri Lankan rupee has appreciated against the US dollar , the prices of essential commodities and other imported goods will be reduced during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season, Trade Minister Nalin Fernando said. 

  Prices of all essential goods had been reduced in the last few days due to the appreciation of the rupee and the benefit will go directly to the consumers, the Minister said.  
He said a majority of the people here consume goods which are imported to the country.  

Consumer products such as potato, onion, sugar, dhal and chilies are directly imported to the country, the minister said.
