CAA conducts 52 raids on private hospitals and medical laboratories

Colombo, July 16 (Daily Mirror) - The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has conducted 52 special raids targeting private hospitals and medical laboratories across the country to ensure consumer health and safety.

The island-wide operation, carried out in all districts, uncovered several serious violations related to medical laboratory materials and equipment used for patient testing and treatment.

During inspections at several leading private hospitals and laboratories, CAA officers found expired and unfit medical materials being stored alongside items currently in use. Investigators also identified concerns over the quality and suitability of certain laboratory supplies.

Among the items found unfit for use were blood glucose testing kits, laboratory chemicals, dengue diagnostic kits, gels used for cardiac patients, medical examination materials, dye solutions and other laboratory equipment and consumables.

The identified items have been taken into the custody of investigating officers, while further investigations are underway.

The CAA said legal action will be taken against institutions found violating provisions of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.

The authority also stated that similar island-wide raids and investigations will continue to prevent practices that could endanger public health and consumer safety.
