While responding to Ranil Wickremesinghe’s allegation as to how President Anura Kumara Dissanayake came to know of his correspondence with the Bribery Commission, Cabinet Spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday the President only quoted Ranil’s social media post on his correspondence with the Bribery Commission.
The Minister told the weekly briefing to announce Cabinet decisions that Wickremesinghe had posted in all his social media accounts on April 11 that he could not appear before the Bribery Commission on April 11 and that he was given a fresh date on April 17.
The Minister said President Dissanayake had only quoted Wickremesinghe’s social media post and that it was not a secret matter.
“Summoning Ranil Wickremesinghe before the Bribery Commission was a known fact by April 11. The President came to know about it through Ranil’s social media posts. The Bribery Commission had not informed it to the President. The President only quoted information made public by Mr. Wickremesinghe,” he said.
Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe asked on Monday how President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was aware of his correspondence with the Bribery Commission on negotiating a date for him to testify before it.
