Serious concerns have been raised following the circulation of a post claiming the launch of an “LGBTQIA+ Sexual Wellbeing Clinic” at the National Hospital in Kandy.

The post, which invited the public to attend the opening, has been criticised for giving the wrong impression that the facility is exclusively for the LGBTQ community.

In reality, what was launched yesterday at the Kandy Hospital was a Healthy Sexual Lifestyle Clinic, open to all individuals.

When contacted, Kandy Hospital Director Dr. Erasha Fernando told the Daily Mirror that the relevant post had been created without her knowledge.

“The clinic was established with the vision of creating a ‘one-stop shop’ for sexual health and wellbeing, accessible to everyone regardless of background and providing comprehensive care and guidance for anyone experiencing sexual health-related issues,” she clarified.

“This is not something new. What we have done here is bring all the units related to sexual health issues under one umbrella, where both medical and psychological concerns are addressed, and proper guidance is available for all patients,” she added.

This development comes amid the strong opposition against the government’s decision to promote LGBTIQ-focused tourism in the country.
