Naval and fishing communities advised to watch for increasing height of swell waves

The naval and fishing communities involved in activities from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota are advised to remain vigilant as swell wave heights and periods may rise in the sea areas, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre said.

They said the swell waves would go up to 3m in height in between 12s and 16s wave period.
However, there is a possibility that nearshore sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Matara via Colombo and Galle, may experience surges due to swell waves.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota can be rough at times.
