Minister Kumara Jayakody faces high court indictment over Rs. 8.8 million state loss

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has filed indictments before the Colombo High Court against former Deputy Procurement Manager of Lanka Fertilizer Company Limited and present Minister of Power, Kumara Jayakody who is the current Energy Minister over an alleged act of corruption.  

The indictments state that while serving as the Deputy Procurement Manager of the company in 2016, the accused had allegedly caused an unlawful profit and benefit to a private company through a carpet contract relating to the warehouse premises of the fertilizer company, causing a loss of more than Rs. 8.8 million to the government.  

Accordingly, the Bribery Commission has filed charges under Section 70(a) of the Bribery Act, alleging that the accused committed the offence of corruption.
