IP arrested for allegedly harassing a tele-actress during hired-ride

• The suspect, identified as a Police Inspector, attached to the Bribery  or Corruption Investigations Unit and working as a three-wheeler driver  during his off-days

A 23-year-old popular actress fell victim to a sexual assault by a three-wheeler driver, who happened to be a Police Inspector, while travelling in a taxi in the Jaliyagoda area of Piliyandala. 

The suspect, identified as a Police Inspector, attached to the Bribery or Corruption Investigations Unit and working as a three-wheeler driver during his off-days.

The incident unfolded after the actress had ordered a three-wheeler from a rental service company for a personal requirement. The journey was set to commence from the Katubedda area in Moratuwa to Nugegoda.

During the journey from Katubedda area to Nugegoda, the three-wheeler, had abruptly come to a halt by the roadside. The driver, purportedly feigning a technical fault, had disembarked from the three-wheeler and approached the actress who was seated on the back seat.

Under the guise of inspecting the alleged technical issue, the driver had allegedly forced himself upon the actress.

Nevertheless, the actress managed to resist the assault, pushing the suspect away. She swiftly exited the three-wheeler, raising an alarm by screaming for help. The actress informed nearby residents that the driver had abandoned her on the road before fleeing the scene.  The actress had received injuries to her kneecaps and had received treatment from a nearby medical center.
