Father, daughter narrowly escape after falling into sink hole

The sinkhole caused by a burst underground pipe was reportedly 16 feet deep.

A father and his daughter narrowly escaped a potentially dangerous situation when they fell into a deep sink hole on the road near the Gothatuwa Drainage Board yesterday.   

The incident occurred as they were making their way to school on a motorcycle. The father and daughter, along with their motorcycle, plunged into the water-filled ditch.  However, they were rescued by residents who sprung into action.   According to  eyewitnesses, the sinkhole which measured a staggering 16 feet in depth, was the result of an underground pipe bursting on the road from Gothatuwa to Koswatte.
