The Election Commission (EC) has advised the public to refrain from photographing or filming any polling-related activities and uploading such images or videos on social media.

In a special statement, the Commission said photographing or filming polling stations, marked ballot papers and sharing them on social media platforms is a violation of election laws.

As such, the EC warned that those who disregard these guidelines could face legal consequences.

Meanwhile, the commission reported receiving 490 complaints of election law violations via social media between October 11 and November 11, 2024.

It noted that, following notifications, social media companies removed links and content associated with 184 of these complaints.
