Bail refused to Keheliya and others

The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court yesterday rejected bail applications filed on behalf of former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and five others in connection with the alleged import of substandard Immunoglobulin injections.  

Accordingly, eleven suspects including former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, former Additional Secretary Saman Ratnayake were further remanded till March 28 by the Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrema for allegedly committing offences under the Public Property Act.
The Magistrate held that the court can satisfy with evidence placed before Court against the suspects in order to substantiate the allegations. The Magistrate further observed that there is a possibility of arising a public disquiet once the suspects were enlarged on bail.   
Deputy Director of the Supplies Division at the Health Ministry, Dr. A.T. Sudarshana who was also arrested by the CID regarding this incident was also remanded until the next hearing date. He has been named as the eleventh suspect in the case.   
Meanwhile, the court was informed that the virtual complainant of this case has been threatened and intimidated by the supporters of former Health Minister and a complaint in this regard had been made with Maradana police.
