Antibiotic injection withheld after tragic death

A thirty-one-year-old male, admitted to Colombo National Hospital for treatment following a burn accident, died shortly after receiving an antibiotic injection, sources confirmed.

The patient was reportedly administered Cefuroxime upon admission at Ward No. 17, leading to his sudden demise.
In response to this incident, authorities have temporarily withheld the batch VLL040 of Cefuroxime Injection 750mg Vial (SR: 00101406), manufactured by Opsonin Pharma Limited, Bangladesh, pending further investigation.
However, the hospital and health authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of this severe adverse drug reaction (ADR).
