Customs seize Rs. 250m smuggled goods

Sri Lanka Customs officials inspected a 40-foot container at the Grayline II yard in Colombo today, which contained cigarettes, turmeric, ginger, cashew nuts and cosmetic products that were allegedly being fraudulently cleared in the name of a local importer without his knowledge. Customs said the seized consignments are valued at more than Rs. 250 million, and that investigations are underway. Pix by Pradeep Pathirana
