Liquid Island clinches Gold at National Industry Excellence Awards 2023

• Reaffirms position as an industry trailblazer, setting new benchmarks for quality, sustainability and corporate responsibility

Liquid Island, the manufacturer of Sri Lanka’s pioneering natural mineral water brand Olu Tropical Water, received top recognition at National Industry Excellence Awards 2023 recently. 
The company clinched the Gold award in the Value-Added Product & Beverages Industry category under the Micro category and Tea sector for its commitment to excellence in factory operations and processes and benchmark corporate social responsibility.

Liquid Island’s performance at the awards is attributed to its green industry concept, as the company has transitioned from using PET bottles to glass bottle filling and replaced polyethene shrink wrapping with corrugated cartons for packaging. The brand’s environmentally conscious endeavours also extend to a glass recycling project and CSR initiatives under OLU, both of which contribute to the larger goal of promoting environmental sustainability. Backed with ISO and SLSI certifications, the company has an exceptional factory environment and operations that uphold the highest quality standards in the industry.

In 2019, we made a groundbreaking decision to transition from PET to glass packaging, marking Olu Tropical Water as the pioneer in Sri Lanka to entirely cease the use of PET. We remain committed to setting new industry benchmarks for environmental stewardship and will continue to invest in initiatives that bring about positive change, including our recent work in leopard conservation through habitat preservation in the central highlands,” commented Liquid Island General Manager Shalindri Malawana.

The judging panel for National Industry Excellence Awards 2023 included notable figures from the Industries Ministry as well as key representatives from research institutions and regulatory bodies, including the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, University of Colombo, Industrial Technology Institute, NEARD 
and SLSI.
