Sri Lanka’s Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has surpassed its tax collection target for the first nine months of 2025, signalling continued momentum in state revenue performance, despite the economic headwinds.

According to the officials of the IRD, as of September 30, 2025, tax revenue stood at Rs.1,641,997 million, exceeding the expected figure of Rs.1,610,599 million, a 102 percent achievement rate. The total marks 75 percent of the full-year tax revenue target of Rs.2,195,220 million.

These figures were disclosed during a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Ways and Means held on October 8, chaired by Wijesiri Basnayake.

The committee members and revenue officials discussed the tax performance trends compared to previous years, alongside the ongoing efforts to strengthen tax administration. Discussions also focused on plans to enhance revenue collection through digitalisation, improved tax management systems and institutional reforms.

Basnayake instructed the IRD to submit detailed proposals outlining reform measures expected to boost efficiency and compliance in the months ahead.

The senior officers of the IRD, including Commissioner General R.P.H. Fernando, participated in the meeting together with the Members of Parliament representing the committee.
