Port workers continue protest against tax hikes

The worker unions at the Port of Colombo yesterday staged a protest against the tax hikes imposed by the Ranil Wickremesinghe government, calling them unbearable and unjust. This was the second protest launched by the port workers within a week. Raising taxes is a key pillar of the revenue-based fiscal consolidation programme Sri Lanka has agreed with the International Monetary Fund to revive the economy.
