Optometric Association launches educational arm

Having been pioneers in the profession of optometry, the Sri Lanka Optometric Association has formed a new wing, known as The College of Optometry and Vision Science, which is the association’s educational arm and was officially launched on January 21, 2024.
This day marks the start of the college’s operations. Opt. Hiran Perera, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Optometrist Association (SLOA) and Managing director of the College of Optometry & Vision Science (COVS) and Board of directors of SLOA/COVS, invited Dr. Amila De Alvis, President of the College of Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka, as the Chief Guest, Past President Dr. K.A. Salvin, Dr. Nalin Goonasinghe – Community Ophthalmologist, and Dr. Ajith Polwatte – Director NVQ of Tertiary & Vocational Education Commission also attended and graced the occasion. In addition to these important guests, there were numerous other distinguished visitors and senior members of the association.
COVS provides optometry courses ranging from Basic Certificate to Higher Diploma and is in the process of obtaining accreditation for the NVQ Level VI curriculum.
