LTL Holdings emerged as a key corporate entity, launching a large-scale humanitarian relief effort to support thousands of affected families across the island, as Sri Lanka grappled with widespread destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
The company mobilised its resources and workforce to provide immediate assistance, placing humanitarian responsibility above commercial considerations.
Chief Executive Officer Eng. Nuhuman Marikkar said the company’s bond with the people of Sri Lanka extends far beyond its role as a leading energy-sector player. He noted that electricity generated at LTL power plants and transmitted through its transformers touches citizens’ lives every day, reinforcing a continuous relationship with the nation.
This people-centric philosophy was previously demonstrated during Sri Lanka’s 2022 economic crisis, when LTL completed the Sobadhanavi Power Plant despite severe foreign exchange shortages and investor withdrawals.
Funded through export earnings and executed by local engineers, the project added 350 megawatts to the national grid, strengthening energy security during a critical period.
Following Cyclone Ditwah, LTL distributed more than 20,000 dry ration packs to affected families in areas including Kurunegala, Hettipola, Wattala, Badulla, Kandy and Seruwila. The relief operation was carried out in partnership with media institutions, voluntary organisations and community volunteers to ensure assistance reached the most vulnerable.
Recognising the need for long-term recovery, the company launched a second phase of support, distributing household equipment kits in Badulla, Mahiyanganaya, Biyagama and Wilgamuwa.
All 450 employees of LTL Holdings participated voluntarily in the relief mission. Special attention was also given to children whose education was disrupted, with the company pledging continued support to help them resume schooling. Beyond disaster response, LTL continues to support schools, hospitals and religious institutions, while contributing to environmental sustainability through the Government’s Clean Sri Lanka programme, under which 10,000 Mee saplings are being planted island wide.
With operations spanning India, Bangladesh, Tanzania and Singapore, LTL Holdings says it remains committed to national development as it prepares for a planned Initial Public Offering in 2026, opening its journey to public participation.
