Industry body highlights glitches in fresh produce supply chain

„„By Shabiya Ali Ahlam Lack of stability in the nation’s fresh produce supply chain was recently highlighted by the industry stakeholders as an area that requires urgent attention if it is to efficiently contribute to both the local and export markets.

The Lanka Fruits & Vegetable Producers, Processors & Exporters’ Association (LFVPPEA) noted that more emphasis is essential by the relevant authorities and industry players to iron out issues in the supply chain to increase the quantities. Stressing that top priority in the association’s agenda is the enhancement of the supply chain, LFVPPEA Outgoing Chairman Annes Junaid expressed confidence in having continuous market access, provided that this key element is fixed.

“We’ve been repeating this mantra; selling is the least of our problems, exporting and finding the market for the produce is also the least of our problems, finding the produce to export is the biggest problem we face right now,” he said, while highlighting the challenges in the industry, during his address at the association’s 35th Annual General Meeting
