The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has once again confirmed its commitment to support the development of Sri Lanka’s port sector.
A team from ADB’s Transport Division met with Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilaka and Deputy Minister Janith Ruwan Kodituwakku at the Ministry office on Wednesday.
ADB Country Director for Sri Lanka, Takafumi Kadono, recalled the Bank’s long history of supporting Sri Lanka’s port and transport projects. He said ADB has been working with Sri Lanka since the 1970s, funding several key projects including the second phase of the Western Container Terminal and the updating of the National Ports Master Plan.
Kadono congratulated Minister Karunathilaka on his new role and assured that ADB will continue to provide financial and technical support for the country’s maritime and transport development.
Minister Karunathilaka thanked the ADB for its long-standing partnership and continuous contribution to improving Sri Lanka’s port and transport infrastructure. He said the government looks forward to even stronger cooperation in the coming years.
Officials from the ADB headquarters in Manila and the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation also took part in the meeting online and in person.
