Truth behind raid would come: Nimal Lansa

Minister of Sports Youth Affairs, Women’s Affairs and Fisheries Western Province Nimal Lansa who was at the centre of controversy after STF raid on his residence today said the truth behind the raid would come out in few days time.

Mr. Lansa told the Daily Mirror that the results of investigations carried out by the CID would come out in a day or two. “I also cannot understand as to who is behind this but everything would be revealed in a day or two,” he said.

The Provincial Minister said President Mahinda Rajapaksa had ordered this investigation as he is of the opinion that there is some conspiracy behind it. “The President too is eager to find the culprits as soon as possible,” he added.

Elaborating on the incident, he said he first heard about the raids while in the Negombo Municipal Council. Mr. Lanksa said he was informed that the houses of some of his close friends were being raided. “Minutes later I heard that my house too had been raided and I rushed to my house,” he added.

He said the STF personnel informed that they had orders from the top to carry out an investigation on illegally assembled vehicles. “I told them to go ahead with the investigation and they could not find any single evidence on any illegally assembled vehicles, “he said.

According to Mr. Lansa the STF had remained for some time after the investigations. They had apparently waited till they received orders to move out of his residence.

He also revealed that houses which belong to nine of his close associates have been raided simultaneously. These he said are leading businessmen in Negombo.
Mr. Lansa who denied reports which said the raid was carried out to recover narcotic drugs said there is no reason for any one to raid his residence for such a thing as the intelligence units are fully aware as to who is importing and distributing them.

Mr. Lansa is expected to take up the matter at the group meeting of the UPFA Western Provincial council members today. (Yohan Perera)
