Showery weather expected

The Meteorology Department said today heavy falls exceeding 100mm is expected in some parts of the country while cloudy skies and showery weather is expected over southwestern parts of the country due to a low level wind convergence and an atmospheric disturbance over vicinity of Sri Lanka.

Issuing a severe weather advisory valid for next 24 hours, it said that showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces. The showers will spread to the Northwestern province too.

Thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere during the afternoon or evening, the Meteorology Department said.

People were advised to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.(Ajith Siriwardana)
