SC notice on Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake

The Supreme Court today issued notice on former Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, TNA leader R. Sampanthan and JVP MP Vijitha Herath to appear before court on May 29 over an appeal filed by the Attorney General.

In his appeal the AG has challenged the Court of Appeal order against the Parliamentary Select Committee which conducted Dr. Bandaranayake’s impeachment.

The AG argued according to Parliamentary Privileges Act, the Court cannot issue an order against the Parliament.
