The greatness of a school is determined by the contribution its students make to the nation, not by the number of students who get through examinations, Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.

Addressing a ceremony held to mark the opening of a new three storied building of the Badulla Dharmadutha Vidyalaya at a cost of Rs.20 million, Minister de Silva said the education system must focus on producing professionals for the global market.

“We are living in a highly competitive world which is changing  before we realise it. The entire trade and service sector have been subjected to rapid globalisation. If we are to face this transformation successfully we must get adjusted to the requirements of globalisation. Therefore, we must produce goods and services for the global demand,” Minister De Silva stressed. (Sandun A. Jayasekera)
