Former Attorney General Mohan Peiris giving evidence at the Homagama magistrates’ court said that he does not know the whereabouts of missing journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda and had made the statement to the effect that Ekanligoda was abroad due to intelligence reports stating so.

“I don’t know if he is alive or dead, only god would know if the information that  I recieved about him is true. I don’t think even the government knows where he lives,” Peiris told court.

When the lawyer for the Petitioner queried from the former AG as to if he remembers the person or department who gave him the information about Eknaligoda living overseas, Peris replied in the negative " I dont remember" he said.

Mohan Peiris was summoned to give evidence in the magisterial inquiry after he had made a statement saying that Ekanaligoda was alive and was residing out of the country while addressing a UN conference on disappeared persons. Peiris had given evidence for close to one and a half hours and was not cross examined by the plaintiffs. ( Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
