Musically missing

Almost all organisers, who organise concerts and musical shows, were presented by local and internationally renowned artists in Colombo during the recent past have defaulted entertainment tax; CMC member Sunil Withanage alleged yesterday.

This included the individual, who organised the concert presented by internationally renowned artiste, who held a show in April this year.

Accordingly, the CMC is to file action against the organisers of the musical show.  

A document which was presented to the monthly sessions of the CMC, which was held on July 28th, said the organisers of that particular concert had defaulted a sum of Rs 1,759, 510.

This document was signed by the Municipal Treasurer; K. D. Chithrapala said that the organisers, event planning organisation and other informal groups had defaulted entertainment tax for some time.

It said that defaults are being made in various ways. These he said did not disclose the entire number of tickets which had been printed for a show, in order to get the entertainment tax that they owed to the CMC.
 
The entertainment tax is calculated by a certain percentage of the total value of the tickets printed for a musical show or a concert, pasting stickers to bloat the ticket prices after producing them to the Municipal Council to compute the entertainment tax and using the names of VIPs to get entertainment taxes exemption.

It was revealed that there were instances, where the organisers had threatened the CMC officials using the names of VIPS. (YP)
