MR directs Rajarata VC to forgive Uni. students

President Mahinda Rajapaksa directed the Vice Chancellor of the Rajarata University to pardon the university students and to reopen the university immediately, during the District coordinating Committee Meeting held in Anuradhapura today.

The president had inquired the Vice Chancellor Professor Ranjith Wijewardane about the situation of the university.

Upon the inquiry the Vice Chancellor explained current situation at the University to which the President had requested him to pardon the students.

“Students make mistakes. They shouldn’t have taken the law into their hands, which is unacceptable but the entire student community should not suffer because of the actions of a few. Therefore reopen the university paying heed to the needs of the majority of the students and their education,” he said.

He asked the Vice Chancellor to meet the parents of the students to find an immediate solution for the issue

Earlier the Rajarata University was closed after students were suspended following a fall out with the administration.. (Rohana Chandradasa)
