Minister cancels licence of drug supplier

As a special inquiry was underway following the recovery of a sleeping tablet stock worth Rs. 200,000 from a person in Kosgama, Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena has ordered that the permit of the drug supplier be cancelled and a case filed against the supplier for selling such a large stock of tablets to a person who possessed little knowledge about drugs.

The ministry said in a statement that according to investigations it was revealed that the sleeping tablets were mixed  with toddy by one of the businessman’s relatives who has  been  selling 2,500 litres of toddy by mixing 1,000 sleeping tablets. His aim was to increase the level of the intoxication among the consumers.
