Mahanayakes write to MR over Kandy night races

A letter signed by four Maha Nayake Theras has been sent to the President Mahinda Rajapaksa requesting him to stop the Night Motor Races to be held in the Kandy during this weekend.

The Asgiriya Chapter Maha Nayaka, Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddarakkitha Thera; the Malawatta Chapter Anu Nayaka, Ven. Niyangoda Wijithasiri Thera; the Sri Lanka Amarapura Chapter Mahanayaka the Ven. Davuldena Gnanissara Thera and the Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya Maha Nayaka the Ven. Napana Premasiri Thera were the signatories to this letter.

Meanwhile arrangements are being made to hold the controversial night races with sand bags placed at several points. Soldiers are seen filling bags with sand which had been unloaded at the vehicle park of the Bogambara racecourse. (Shane Seneviratne)
