A ‘Kattadiya’ of a Devale called Gunananda who seduced a 32 year old married woman was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment and suspended for eight years with a fine of Rs.30,000, when he pleaded guilty to the charge before Kandy High Court Judge Manilal Waidyatillke.

State Counsel Charika Dharamsiri told court, how a woman who had health problems, had gone to the Devale of the accused at Vardiwela, after all other attempts had failed to secure relief.

It was disclosed that the woman was the mother of two children aged 14 and 13 years. She had gone with her father and the Kattadiiya has taken her inside the Devale, where the offence was committed. (L. B. Senaratne)
