The JVP has formally warned its dissidents in writing against conducting seminars and giving statements to the media criticising the party, the Daily Mirror learns.

Dissidents suspect this as a step towards removing them from the party.

According to the dissidents, General Secretary Tilvin Silva has addressed this letter to them a few days ago.

Asked for a comment in this regard, dissident member Pubudu Jayagoda said that he would reply to Mr. Silva very soon.

“The General Secretary has sent this letter as a reminder to us. Probably, it can be the initial step in removing us from the party,” he said.

Mr. Jayagoda said that all the defected members were working hard at the moment for the conducting of the 22nd death commemoration of the party’s founder leader Rohana Wijeweera on November 13, at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

The dissident group has already conducted a series of seminars throughout the country. Central Committee member Senadheera Gunatilake said that already, nine members out of the 23- member central committee have broken ranks with the party. They are now trying to form a new leftist movement. (By Kelum Bandara)
