A foreign national who managed to dupe several people by promising them employment opportunities in Italy has been arrested and remanded, sources at the Fraud Investigations Bureau told Daily Mirror online.

The foreigner had managed to deceive people for huge sums of money while he was staying in Sri Lanka on an expired visa. Over a dozen complaints were received against the suspect.

According to the Fraud Investigations Bureau the suspect had obtained the help of some locals and was residing at a leading Colombo apartment complex but had not been able to pay the apartment rent.

Following his arrest the suspect complained of ill health and was admitted to the prison hospital. Unit seven of the Fraud Investigations Bureau is conducting further investigations. (Daily Mirror online)
