Health warning on packets of cigars

The Health Ministry said today that a pictorial health warning label would be introduced on cigarette packs in the next two months to control the use of cigarettes among people.

Deputy Health Minister Lalith Dissanayake said the government gained a revenue of Rs.47 billion from the tobacco industry but that the expenditure incurred on tobacco related illnesses was nearly four times more that the revenue generated each year. (Olindhi Jayasundere)
