Government telling ten lies to cover one lie: Harsha

The main opposition United National Party (UNP) today said hell had broken loose after the passing of the controversial Revival of Underperforming Enterprises and Under-utilised Assets Bill, forcing the government to come up with different tunes from time to time, even going to the extent of stating that the properties of the private enterprises that were to be taken over under the Bill may remain unchanged.

This was in response to the statement made by the Central Bank Governor that present properties of private enterprises that were to be taken over under the Bill may remain, although the manner in which the business was run may be changed.

UNP National List MP Dr. Harsha De Silva who made this point at a news conference today said the statement made by the Central Bank governor came after hell had broken loose with the stance taken by the Moody’s and Fitch Rating Statements in this regard. Moody’s and Fitch Ratings recently warned against the Bill stating that government control of businesses would hinder investment.

“The government is covered in mud from head to toe with this Bill which would ruin economic freedom,” he said charging that it had changed its stance now.

The UNP MP charged that the government was backtracking now and telling ten lies to cover up one lie. (By Yohan Perera)
