First group of Indian workers return from SL-India

The first batch of Indian workers, who were involved in a labour dispute with a Sri Lankan company, on Tuesday returned from Sri Lanka, Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said

"First group back, rest coming in course of day. Indians with labour issues in Sri Lanka return," he tweeted.

Earlier this week, Akbaruddin had stated that the issue is labour-related and had assured that the Indian High Commission in Colombo had taken up the matter with the concerned company.

According to reports, the 77 workers involved in the dispute had written to Prime Minister NarendraModi and External Affairs Minister SushmaSwaraj, seeking their intervention to resolve the matter. The workers mostly hail from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.(ANI)
