Bus fare increase after Thursday

A final decision on the private bus fares increase will be taken after the private bus operators submit their proposals to the National Transport Commission (NTC) on Thursday, Private Transport Services Minister C.B. Ratnayaka said.

He told a news briefing held at his Ministry this monring that the private bus operators had requested for two more days to submit their proposals to the NTC.
Private bus fares were expected to be increased by 8% to 10 from July 1 with the minimum bus fare unchanged at Rs.9.

However, private bus operators have demanded a 10% increase on account of the price increase in fuel, spare parts, maintenance and wages.
