BIA Customs nab 5.5 Kgs of gold in September

A Sri Lankan who attempted to smuggle 12 pieces of gold bars weighing 1500  grammes and  worth Rs. 7.5 million to Bombay was arrested this morning by Customs officers  at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Customs media spokesman Leslie Gamini said.

He said the gold bars were hidden in the suspect's rectum. The suspect has been identified as a 30-year-old resident of Nikaweratiya.

“This was the eighth such raid carried out by the BIA custom officials during this month. A total 5.5 Kilograms of gold worth Rs. 275,000 had been detected during this month”, Mr. Gamini said. (Chaturanga Pradeep-DM Online)
