Bad weather due to tropical cyclone in Bay of Bengal

The Meteorology Department issuing a severe weather advisory valid for next 24 hours said intermittent showers or thundershowers exceeding 150 mm would be experienced at some places in Northern, Eastern, and North central provinces.

The Department said depression in the Bay of Bengal had intensified in to a tropical cyclone and located about 330 km to the east to the Jaffna and was slowly moving away from Sri Lanka towards India.

The Department said the sea areas off the coast extending from Pottuvil to Puttalam via Jaffna and Batticaloa would be very rough and dangerous with wind speed strengthening up to 80kmph at times.
