Woman nabbed with Rs. 17,936,500 earned through drug deal

A 31-year-old woman was arrested by the police Narcotic Bureau yesterday with Rs. 17,936,500 in cash, which she suspected to have earning through trafficking and peddling narcotics, the Police said. 

They said the woman was arrested after questioning two suspects arrested in connection with a heroin racket.

 A 37-year-old suspect was arrested on May 18 in connection with a heroin racket in Athurugiriya near Godagama by the officers attached to the Police Narcotic Bureau. He was arrested with 294 grammes of heroin in his possession.

Upon further interrogation of the suspect, led to the arrest of another 58-year-old man with 3.3 kg of heroin. He was from the Padukka area.

Meanwhile, details of another 31-year-old woman who had links with the above suspects, was arrested after carrying out extensive interrogation of both the suspects.

With the arrest of the woman, police found Rs. 17,936,500 in cash, which they suspected would have been earned legally from drug trafficking and peddling.

The police revealed that the husband of the woman was the mastermind who is operating this drug racket from Dubai. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
