Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Rajitha Senaratne today said he will soon make another effort to form an anti-government common alliance bringing in all opposition parties together by initiating a dialogue among the leaders of the opposition political parties.
“I did it once. I will initiate another dialogue among opposition parties to form a common opposition alliance,” he told a news conference insisting that he would not join any other party.Asked whether there were moves to form new political parties or alliances by other SJB members like Patali Champika Ranawaka, he said there were no such moves.
He also said he would not contest as the common candidate at the next presidential elections. “We have a leader to contest as our candidate and I would not contest. However former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe wanted to me contest the 2015 presidential elections as the common candidate but he later opted for Maithnripala Sirisena,” he said.
On a different note he said the SJB would raise questions in Parliament on the Chinese COVID 19 vaccine which had not got proper approval from medical experts and on the contaminated edible coconut oil issue. (Yohan Perera)
