Colombo, April 27 (Daily Mirror) - A warehouse containing medicines, samples, and key documents related to a medical supply company linked to the substandard drug case involving former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has suddenly caught fire, raising serious concerns over the possible destruction of important evidence.
Doctors’ Trade Union Alliance for Medical and Civil Rights Chairman, Specialist Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, said the warehouse reportedly contained files and medicine samples imported during the relevant period, which are considered significant to ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities in drug procurement and distribution.
Dr. Sanjeewa has called for an immediate investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He urged authorities to determine whether the fire was a natural incident or a deliberate act of sabotage aimed at destroying evidence. He warned that the loss of files and samples could seriously affect investigations into alleged malpractice within the Medical Supply Unit.
He further alleged suspicions of organized efforts to obstruct judicial proceedings related to past drug distribution activities and stressed the need for urgent action by law enforcement authorities.
The CID has been urged to launch a full investigation into the incident without delay.
