Colombo, May 20 (Daily Mirror) - An uproar erupted in Parliament today when Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara refused to answer a question raised by MP Ajith P. Perera about filling five vacancies of judges in the Supreme Court and three in the Appeal Court.
The Minister said he cannot answer the question as per Standing Orders 33(1).
MP Perera said he has no option but to raise this question as even the Constitutional Council has failed to come up with a solution to it.
"Speak to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and fill the vacancies," he told the Minister.
Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne also said the question raised by the MP was not relevant.
