Two suspects identified in Kahawatta murder case

Colombo, August 5 (Daily Mirror) - Two of the eight suspects remanded over the abduction and murder of a 22-year-old man in Hallinda, Palansuriyagama, Kahawatta, were identified by eyewitnesses during an identification parade held at the Pelmadulla Magistrate’s Court today.

The suspects, alleged to have posed as police officers, abducted a 22-year-old resident of Hallinda, and shot him dead.

Six of the suspects were arrested during investigations conducted by the Western Province North Crime Investigation Division and the Ratnapura Crime Investigation Division, while the remaining two surrendered to authorities.

The identification parade was held before Acting Magistrate Sarath Wijeyagunawardene, during which the two suspects, Vaas Priyantha Peiris and Mahesh Chatumuni, both residents of Pannipitiya, were positively identified by the witnesses.

All eight suspects were produced before Pelmadulla Magistrate Nuthinan Siriwardene and were further remanded until August 18.
