Two shot dead in Hikkaduwa

Two persons reportedly kileld during a shooting at Thiranagama Junction in Hikkaduwa short while ago, police said.

Two men arrived on a motorcycle carried out the shooting using a T-56 assault riffle.

The victims, aged 26 and 47 were identified as residents of Hikkaduwa.

Earlier, police said 32 shooting incidents were reported to the Police within the first nine months of this year and a total of 36 persons were killed in those shootings. 

A new police division was also set up in the Southern Province few days ago to combat organized crimes, drug trafficking and other special crimes that take place in the Matara and Hambanthota districts.
