Two locals nabbed with Rs.10mn worth Anthurium plants

Two Sri Lankan passengers were arrested at the Katunayake International airport in possession of anthurium plants which they have brought from Thailand, Customs Deputy Director (Legal) and media spokesman Sudatta Silva said.

He said the anthurium plants worth over Rs.10 million were imported contrary to herb control laws in the country.

The suspects arrived in from Bangkok, Thailand by SriLankan Airlines, he said.

The suspects and the plants were handed over to the airport herb control unit for further investigation, Silva added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
